WRJ level 2c (for those who have studied veil, zills and cane with me): going deeper
WHERE: DANCERS CORNER (WHITE RIVER JUNCTION)
TIME: 5:45 to 7:00 (75 minutes)
WHEN: Wednesdays – january 14 - march 4 (8 weeks)
DESCRIPTION: This class has a dual purpose: tune-up and take it on the road. This is a strictly non-choreography course, although there will be combinations taught. First, the tune-up. After a long and focused show season, we will re-establish the baseline for good technique with and without props. Veils, zills and canes will be used intermittently throughout the winter term and students should bring all of these to class every week. Take it on the road: The second class objective is to give students more practice in developing their own material, thereby taking the creative process into their own hands within the parameters of Middle Eastern dance. This is an important step in a dancer's development after beginning to master intermediate level skills. As such, the class pace will vary. Some weeks you'll sweat as we work on demanding combinations, and other weeks you'll be doing solo or group work which may involve more thinking/sensing than moving. (If you're looking for straight exercise, consider an Intro to Level 2 class - I make them SWEAT!) The overall purpose of this class is to "go deeper". For Level 2 and Repertory class students, this means strengthening technique within the MED genre (clarity of execution, posture, continuity of energy, precision of movement, balance, flexibility, etc) and taking more personal command of the lexicon as a creator. PLEASE NOTE: ALL LEVEL 2 CLASSES REQUIRE INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION (BY EMAIL), EVEN IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED IN LEVEL 2 CLASSES IN THE PAST. Class requires a minimum of 12 students.
