“The Lantern” is an award-winning choreography in “The Best of the Raqs Salaam Dance Theater” competition. This very challenging 2016 choreography is going to be re-staged and re-imagined in order to retain the range of movement in the original choreography, but also tweaked in order to accommodate dancers who may be newer to tight isolations and/or who may not want to do floorwork. Skillful dancers will be challenged and will perform the original moves. Conversely, this choreography will welcome experienced dancers of all skill levels through modifications in certain sections. Experienced dancers who have never taken a sword class are highly encouraged to join and to cross the skill threshold of “becoming aware of balance.” Balancing an object on one’s head develops a new body awareness and control, both of which will bring lasting benefits to the dancer. The costumes will also be “re-imagined”! Take the plunge! Do it!
PLEASE NOTE: All classes above beginner level require instructor permission (by email) even if you have registered in advanced classes in the past.
LOCATION: Hanover Rec Center (Richard W. Black Center), Hanover, NH
FAQs: See FAQ’s page regarding foul weather, make-up classes and other issues.
WHAT TO BRING/WEAR: See FAQ’s page. Students will be asked to bring a thick yoga mat to each class. The class includes two fan veils which will be ordered after the first class.
COST: $170. There will be a $70 charge for sword, payable by student upon receipt of sword. Please postmark class check no later than March 8 to: Gina Capossela, 2090 Moore Road, South Royalton, VT 05068. Please note that we cannot offer refunds, discounts for missed classes (although we encourage make-ups at other locations), transfers of registration/credit to other students, or refunds due to weather rescheduling.
