DESCRIPTION:
It’s been a long time since I’ve taught one of my favorite “first love” Belly Dance topics, the Turkish 9/8. The Turkish 9/8 rhythm is called Karsilama, and it is heavily influenced by Turkish Romany dance. This class will explore both the 20th century Turkish dance style, as well as how to dance to this upbeat rhythm. This dance genre has a very specific energy which contrasts with the controlled energy of the Egyptian cabaret style. It is energetic in a wild and, at times, aggressive/in-your-face way. It is not demure, innocent or coy. It is hoppy, peppy and super fun. If you’ve never taken a Turkish Belly Dance class, you want to take this class : ) The class is open to anyone except first year Intermediate students (sorry, guys, trust me, your time WILL come). Please email me to ask if this is the right class for you before registering.
LOCATION: Hanover Rec Center, 48 Lebanon Street and online live. Zoom link will be provided
